Paintings from my 'Plastiki' diary
All these works were painted on Monday 26th July 2010 on the media boat the "Coast", in watercolour in a 21 x 26cm diary.
It was a lovely winter's day- sunny, clear and calm. However I had been battling the flu for over a month, and a day out on a boat just inside the Heads with the crisp ocean breeze in my hair was almost the last nail in my coffin! I was quite seriously ill and am still recovering, but I wouldn't have missed the experience for anything!
On Wednesday night I donated one of my oil paintings of the view through the Heads from Georges Heights, proceeds going to S.I.M.S.- the Sydney Institute of Marine Sciences. The occasion was a fascinating interview by Robin Williams questioning David de Rothschild about his epic Plasiki adventure.

As well as the canvas I donated, I displayed this painting diary about sailing to greet the Plastiki.
In November, I displayed it again with other paintings at the annual S.I.M.S. Open day at their headquarters at Chowder Bay, Mosman.

Around the rocky headland on the right is Lady Bay Beach, Sydney Harbour's infamous legal nude beach.
As we sailed past on our way, one of the male sunbakers waved at our boat. With his hand, I hope.

Port Jackson in all its glory.
A wonderful view from our ship the "Coast".
A vantage point from the middle of Sydney Harbour, looking back to the Sydney CBD. Nielsen Park is the headland on the left, and the bushland of Bradley's Head, Mosman is on the right.
In the centre of my sketch is the shining white cupola of the Bradley's Head lighthouse.

"South Head"
2010 watercolour on paper 21 x 26cm Enquiries |
Waves breaking on the rocks of South Head as we wait to greet the 'Plastiki' just inside the Heads.
The Hornby Lighthouse stands proudly on the tip of South Head. the waves are fairly choppy out here even in good weather, and quite a few of the passengers got seasick.
I was trampled by the media trying to get the best view of the 'Plastiki' coming through the Heads.
It was hard to keep my balance, juggling brushes, water, watercolour box and my book at the same time.
"The 'Plastiki' enters Sydney Harbour"

We greet the 'Plastiki' as at last she enters Sydney Harbour through the Heads. Some spectator craft, mostly from the media, are also there to gawk at the plastic bottle boat.
Here I've sketched the "Plastiki" with a tug, a green buoy and a water taxi.
The bushland in the background is on Georges Heights, Middle Head.
