I haven't posted the later stages of the Park construction on my blog yet, but I have several photos of some quite big paintings on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/JaneBennett.Art/photos/a.854726694560551.1073741849.192504250782802/854727711227116/?type=3&theaterJane Bennett Artisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12378167586493733589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5500087559667301206.post-33689615706033020752015-06-17T08:10:11.520+10:002015-06-17T08:10:11.520+10:00From personal experience, The Paradise, Purgatory ...From personal experience, The Paradise, Purgatory and Hell hole Sandstones were Fantastic to work with, Piles Creek a Gosford stone used alot these days, Is a Wonderful stone to work as well, I remember seeing the quarried blocks under the ANZAC Bridge and was SALAVATING, Their were some GOOD ONES, And not so good ones, Quite a Surreal site, Harold Hudson / McLeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00112872087870561963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5500087559667301206.post-85040694216713155182015-06-17T07:44:11.146+10:002015-06-17T07:44:11.146+10:00I have worked on all of these buildings as a Banke...I have worked on all of these buildings as a Banker Mason aforesaid in the authors article, PYRMONT Stone is Absolutely Lovely to with, I can't remember how many stones I've made, lol Harold Hudson / McLeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00112872087870561963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5500087559667301206.post-69112088940527132062012-04-24T14:22:39.020+10:002012-04-24T14:22:39.020+10:00Thanks Julie! I managed a couple of gargoyles at the University of Sydney, including some while they were doing restoration work, but I stupidly sold them & will have to borrow them back to take proper photos of them.
I wanted to show the full life cycle of a block of sandstone from under the ground to the top of a heritage building. I was lucky enough to witness the re-opening of the iconic Paradise Quarry.
Unfortunately, another wonderful potential source of the rare yellowblock was wasted. All the sandstone from the K.E.N.S. site in Millers Point, opposite the Barangaroo site and now the new headquarters of Westpac, was mashed up and sent as fill for the Port Botany expansion. Even more unfortunately, some very early ruins joined them as soon as the archaeologists had finished with them.
I've just updated my "Urban Landscape" page in this blog http://janebennettartist.blogspot.com.au/p/urban-landscape.html to show a few of my KENS site paintings.Jane Bennett Artisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12378167586493733589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5500087559667301206.post-79489786809067782902012-04-24T00:01:07.478+10:002012-04-24T00:01:07.478+10:00Thoroughly enjoyed this late night read, Jane. There are quite a few mammals on the George Street facade of the GPO, too.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09513648613788716017noreply@blogger.com
